Description of Grand BoulevardThe "Grand Boulevard" for which this area was named is today called Martin Luther King Drive, and the area's rich history can be traced in nearby landmarks and institutions. Mansions, churches, and social centers evidence Grand Boulevard's late-19th century heyday as an elite residential area, and its 20th-Century transformation into "Bronzeville", one of Chicago's centers of African-American culture.
