Description of LoopSo named both for the shape of an original transportation mechanism and the elevated track that soon followed, the forty or so blocks at the center of this "Loop" are still bounded by the circle of train tracks from which the CTA's trains begin their journeys. The Loop offers dozens of landmark buildings, a good deal of public sculpture, three of Chicago's finest department stores, many of its Broadway-style theaters, Chicago's financial district and stock exchange, and a considerable number of restaurants.
