Through the vision of local community planners and forward-thinking merchants, a section of Uptown that had at one time seen an economic downturn has revived, into a vibrant, multicultural Asian marketplace. Sometimes called New Chinatown or Little Saigon, and known especially for Vietnamese and other Asian wares, this stretch of Argyle street close to the Red Line El stop has a compact neighborhood feel and a thriving collection of restaurants and shops. They are frequented by tourists and vistors from all of Chicago as well as locals, while nearby services are tailored to the neighborhood's residents, many of whom are also Asian.
