Otherwise a quiet, gracious, and somewhat small Western Suburb, the Village of Brookfield is one of Chicagoland's most visited destinations because its Hollywood neighborhood hosts the world-class Brookfield Zoo. Since 1934, the zoo has been open to the public as an innovative facility where animals have relatively open habitat spaces, and in recent decades it has gained acclaim for its conservation efforts. The zoo's architecture has classical elegance, and the village offers other structures with historic appeal as well.
