The commercial center of the Edgewater community, between Sheridan and Broadway and extending from Bryn Mawr north to Thorndale, includes shops, restaurants, pubs, banks, churches, and civic facilities, many of them landmarks, such as the Broadway Bank and the Broadway Armory (both pictured). The community is unusually international; of its approximately 10,000 residents, just under half are native speakers of African, Asian, and European languages other than English. To the east, along a lakefront area sometimes included in the Edgewater Beach neighborhood that begins farther south, the northern tip of Lincoln Park offers one of the park's most stunning beaches: Hollywood Beach.
