Once alcohol-free, and always the commercial nexus for nearby Northwestern University, the downtown Evanston area has recently remade itself and continues to experience a construction boom. With a large stadium seating multiplex cinema, tens of thousands of square feet of new retail space, and contemporary highrise condiminiums and apartments with more to come, downtown Evanston is an exciting place to live, shop, and dine, convenient to much of the North Shore and to Chicago's Far North side.
