The official community area which contains the eastern portion of the Garfield Park neighborhood, with vintage architecture along Washington and Warren Boulevards between Kedzie and Western Avenues, also includes the architecturally rich Fifth City residential area with a concentration of Romanesque Revival structures along Monroe Avenue east of the park. Sprawling Garfield Park itself includes the jewel of this part of Chicago: the horticultural wonderland of Garfield Park Conservatory (pictured). Economically, this community area is struggling seriously, but some new development and attempts at revitalization have been made, with Homan Square just to the south of the park now a somewhat more affluent neighborhood.
