Seemingly having more in common with the suburbs that surround it, such as Park Ridge, than with more urbanized northwestern neighborhoods like Jefferson Park, Edison Park is a small village of a neighborhood on Chicago's northwestern edge. Like most of Chicago's suburbs, it evolved along the train tracks and is still centered around a Metra train station. Annexed late to Chicago (1910), Edison Park is one of Chicago's most independent communities, and one of its more affluent, taking pride in its shopping district. It was one of the first suburbs to have electric lights, and on account of this association renamed itself after inventor Thomas Edison. |
