Bordering Chicago on three sides, Evergreen Park is a distinctly suburban community that contrasts significantly with the urban Chicago neighborhoods immediately to its north and west. It has a small-town feel and in places an almost rustic character, and is abundant with namesake evergreen trees. The village has a circular park at its original center from which eight streets emerge in a compass-rose pattern. Evergreen Park's lively and relatively diverse spiritual life has won it the cognomen "Village of Churches"; it lies just south of the sprawling, peaceful St. Mary Cemetary.
