As a residential suburb on the edge of Chicagoland, with an independent history as a river town, Geneva, much like its northern neighbor St. Charles, occupies an unusual and interesting position, both culturally and geographically. At the farthest western extent of today's suburban Chicago area, the city sits handsomely on the Fox River and has 170 years of history to celebrate. It serves as county seat for Kane County, and the splendid courthouse (pictured) dates to 1891. Geneva's historic district is also a charming retail area, luring shoppers from far and wide to its quaint shops, which are convienently nearby the commuter Metra rail.
