A suburban landscape at the turn-of-the-century, Irving Park today is now a large Community Area in the center of Chicago's Northwest Side with an urban, spread out, commercial character, although its land is primarily residential. It includes the distinctive Old Irving Park neighborhood and sections considered part of the Albany Park neighborhood. Its pockets of quaint houses and lovely churches recall its past as a pleasant commuter community, while its car dealerships and strip malls suggest its mid-20th Century life in the middle of Chicago's long, wide city grid.
