Once a far-flung village in a sparsely populated township, Jefferson Park emerged as a transportation crossroads and became an anchor community of Chicago's Far Northwest. In some ways still evolving its community identity, Jefferson Park has affection for its namesake, Thomas Jefferson, and an appreciation for its 19th and 20th century history as an much-traveled locale, although it has declined in population from its mid-20th height. Today it remains a transportation hub, where the CTA Blue Line and Metra both have major stops, met by many bus routes, and which the Kennedy Expressway traverses. |
