At the northern tip of Chicagoland, Wisconsin's Kenosha is a sizable city with a lot to offer, a microcosm of Chicago with a similar city grid but a habitablility and pace of life that may suggest the Chicago of 150 years ago. Kenosha centers in part around its harbor area, where the summertime offers recreation and a bucolic gateway to Lake Michigan. A handful of restaurants and shops dot its commercial corridor, and a number of well-preserved early 20th-century buildings invite visitors' admiration. Kenosha is easily accessible from Chicago by an hour-and-a-half train ride through the idyllic North Shore suburbs.
