A majority-Hispanic (61%) community just south of the river from the Heart-of-Chicago neighborhood, McKinley Park is in some respects a study in contrasts, in others a typical near-southwest-side community. Although just west of the traditionally Irish Bridgeport Community Area, only 5% of McKinley Park's residents are of Irish descent; 7%, however, are Chinese-speakers, reflecting its proximity to Chicago's expanding Chinatown. 9% claim Polish descent, and Polish stronghold Archer Heights is not far southwest of McKinley Park along Archer Avenue.
