A neighborhood of large homes (which well-to-do white doctors reportedly built for themselves in the 1960s), the Pill Hill area in the Calumet Heights Community Area is today an enclave for affluent African-Americans. Its character is unique in many respects and stands in contrast to other parts of Chicago's underprivileged South Side, but also represents the less-well-known middle-class section of African-American South Chicago which stretches roughly from 75th street to 95th street.
