River Forest is perhaps best known through its proximity to neighboring Oak Park, famous for the prairie-style designs of architect Frank Lloyd Wright, several of which appear in River Forest as well. But the village of River Forest has more to recommend it than architecture; tree-lined streets and friendly neighborhood gatherings are a way of life, here, and although urban neighborhoods of the city of Chicago are not far to its east and more industrial Wetern suburbs lie to its west, River Forest is about as quiet and gentille a suburb as one might wish.
