Roseland, just west of the historic Pullman District, is relatively affluent for Chicago's African-American South Side, boasting a median Household income of nearly 40,000/year and placing it economically with the middle-class neighborhoods to its north such as Chatham and Burnside. Physically, though, it shares features in common with more disadvantaged neighborhoods: empty lots, storefront churches, signs of poverty. Nonetheless, it also has some of Chicago's most beautiful architecture, many of them gorgoeus places of worship flanked by standard vintage six-flats and local bars.
