Chicago's Nexus

Find anything in Chicagoland:

The communities within the city limits of Chicago range from dazzling urban arrays of highrises to idyllic residential communities not unlike the suburbs they border. In between lies a wide variety of neighborhoods, chock-full with almost every heritage, lifestyle, architecture, and culture imagniable. Chicago has been divided many ways: from the fixed 77 "community areas" originally devised during the 1920s and, only slightly updated, still used as the basic official segmentation map for Chicago, to the 50 political wards used in council and alderperson elections, the boundaries of which change to meet the character of their constituencies. Most commonly, Chicago's locales are defined informally by their inhabitants, often bolstered by chambers of commerce, residents' associations, block clubs, Merchant, Industrial, and Historical districts, and official city designations. Within many neighborhoods are smaller neighborhoods and districts. Found here is our list of recognizable, indispensible contemporary Chicago neighborhood names, numbering roughly 130, linked where applicable to their WildOnions profiles. They are under subheadings of more general parts of town, and include (in italics) cultural campuses and major parks as well. You may also explore our neighborhood maps.
